DATA 2150: Artificial Intelligence Tools (Spring 2025)

This course empowers students to ethically harness Generative AI to supercharge their skills in research, creativity, writing, time management, critical thinking, and career exploration. By blending human ingenuity with AI-sourced information and efficiency, student will become early adopters of AI technology and responsible AI citizens. This hands-on course provides students with practical experience employing Generative AI to perform real-world tasks. By the end of the course, students will be able to effectively collect accurate historical and real-time information, generate high-quality text and media, transform content between formats, analyze data to derive insights, and deploy Generative AI to tackle private and professional challenges. 

Course Goals

  • AI Fundamentals: Develop a solid understanding of fundamental AI concepts, including principles, capabilities, and limitations of AI.
  • Ethical AI Usage: Master the responsible and ethical use of AI, with a strong emphasis on academic integrity and good AI citizenship.
  • Practical Skill Building: Learn how to apply AI to tackle real-world problems across various domains and leverage AI to improve critical thinking, communication, research, time management, goal setting, career exploration, and creative problem-solving. 
  • AI-Readiness: Gain insight into AI's transformative impact on the future of work, prepare for AI-driven careers, and develop AI-enhanced skills, ensuring readiness for the evolving professional landscape.
  • Positive AI Impact: Recognize and harness AI's potential for positive social, ethical, and professional impact.

This 3-credit hour course has no pre- or co-requisites, is open to all students, and is taught by Taylor Center Professor of Practice and Associate Director of Career Education and Life Design, Julia Lang.
