Data Research
Call for Project Proposals
The Connolly Alexander Institute for Data Science in partnership with Newcomb Institute, calls for data-related project proposals of Tulane graduate students, staff, faculty, and New Orleans community partners to be considered for sponsorship by the Data Research Internship Program, directed by Jacquelyne Thoni Howard, Ph.D. (jhoward8@tulane.edu).
This program accepts proposals throughout the semester on a rolling basis. See below for eligibility and information about the program. To apply, fill out this proposal form.
Project Sponsorship
If selected as a project partner, the Data Research Interns through the Data Lab will work with you to provide technical expertise and meet project objectives with the goal of completing your data project using data scholarship principles. As an interdisciplinary program, we encourage project partners from all fields to apply.
Project Qualifications
Tulane faculty, graduate students, staff, or New Orleans community members who incorporate or want to incorporate data into their research are eligible.
We are looking for data research projects that focus on discovery skills such as data collection, data clean-up, data analysis, data visualization, data/science communication and have a social or cultural framework such as gender, race, sexuality, class, environment, and/or disability.
Project Partner Expectations
Project partners must agree to work within the Scrum model framework and communicate closely with the product developer intern by providing feedback. They also will allow CAIDS and Newcomb Institute to promote the project and interns' work through poster development, and write-ups shared on social media and zines. Partners will acknowledge the sponsorship of CAIDS and Newcomb Institute sponsorship in any publications and websites relating to the project. Project partners will list the names of the Digital Research team, including Lab faculty and staff, GAs, and interns on your site and promotional materials. In some cases, Jacquelyne Thoni Howard will discuss additional credibility needs, depending on the scope and consultation needs of the project. We ask that project partners attend the data poster session and other invited events, as possible.
