Data Research Internship Program
The Data Research Interns, at CAIDS, works with project partners, such as Tulane faculty, staff, or community groups, to create interdisciplinary, data-focused digital scholarship that focuses on social and cultural frameworks. Data research interns play an integral role in these projects, gaining hands-on experience in data cleaning, analysis, and visualization, as well as project management and product development. In partnership with the Newcomb Institute, students practice ethical data methods. This program provides an opportunity to develop data and research skills and contribute to meaningful social science and humanities projects.
Program Objectives:
- Solves multi-disciplinary research questions using data research methods supported by ethical frameworks.
- Works collaboratively as a team on a range of data research projects of Tulane faculty and community partners while building a portfolio of data and essential skills.
- Continually focus and reflect on building projects and relationships using data ethics and community-engaged research frameworks such as partnership and reciprocity, collaboration, leveraging resources, and agentic co-education.
Project Types:
Students will discover data skills relating to data collection, data management, and data communication. Students gain a project portfolio that often includes the following skills:
- Developing deliverables such as apps, digital archives, visualizations, GIS maps, databases, and other data scholarship projects.
- Working with spreadsheets and data tools to complete data entry, data collection, data cleaning, data analysis, and data visualization tasks.
