Internships at CAIDS
CAIDS offers a range of internship opportunities for students.
Data Research Internship Program
The Data Research Interns work with project partners to create data- and AI-focused scholarship and community-engaged data projects. Data research interns play an integral role in these projects, gaining hands-on experience in data cleaning, analysis, and visualization, as well as project management and product development. This program provides an opportunity to develop data and research skills through guided trainings and mentorship and contribute meaningfully to data projects in the community at the university. The team prioritizes projects that make a social impact and develop change through social good.
Program Objectives:
- Solves multi-disciplinary research questions using data research methods (including AI) supported by ethical frameworks.
- Works collaboratively on data and AI projects of Tulane faculty and community partners while building a portfolio of data and essential skills.
- Continually focus and reflect on building projects and relationships using data and AI ethics and community-engaged research frameworks such as reciprocity, collaboration, leveraging resources, and agentic co-education.
Project Types:
Students will discover data skills relating to data collection, data management, and data communication. Students gain a project portfolio that often includes the following skills:
- Develop deliverables such as apps, digital archives, visualizations, GIS maps, databases, and other data scholarship projects.
- Work with spreadsheets and data/AI tools to complete data entry, data collection, data cleaning, data analysis, and data visualization tasks.
- Create science communications such as websites, social media campaigns, video tutorials, and academic posters related to data projects.
- Participate in and support outreach and educational programming around data and AI initiatives.
- Increase public access to data information by working with community partners on data-related projects.
